Whiplash is a common injury suffered by those who have had the unfortunate experience of being in an automobile accident.  Although it is most often associated with rear-end collisions, these are not the only types of accidents that cause whiplash.  Any accident (vehicular, sports related, etc) that causes your neck into forceful movements – forward and backward or side to side – can result in whiplash.

During such forceful movements, the ligaments and muscles in your neck are stretched beyond their normal limit causing small or incomplete tears.  Mild cases of whiplash may be treated successfully with over-the-counter medications, use of ice and heat, and limited neck activity or movement.

However, not all cases of whiplash are minor.  In fact, most cases of whiplash require professional help such as chiropractic or physical therapy.

Common Symptoms of Whiplash include:

  • Neck pain
  • Neck stiffness
  • Dizziness
  • Fatigue or tiredness
  • Headaches

Other, more severe,  symptoms may include:

  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Memory problems
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Irritability
  • Numbness, tingling,  or weakness in the arms
  • Painful head and neck movements
  • Pain into the shoulders or upper back

At ChiroCare for Women, LLC, patients who are experiencing pain or other symptoms from whiplash receive physical therapy services or modalities such as cryotherapy/moist heat therapy, myofascial release or chiropractic massage, ultrasound therapy, electrotherapy, and chiropractic adjustments.  We are also able to offer our patients a completely natural, homeopathic muscle relaxant for use in between office visits.
